This body of work is a collection of images created out of a pure passion for visual storytelling. All of the photographs were made outside of assignments for an employer or publication. These self-assigned projects help me grow as a photographer and storyteller, allowing me to develop my skills on a daily basis. The images were created both at home in Columbus, Ohio, and throughout the United States.

Damariscotta Pumpkin festival and Regatta

Thousands of spectators gather on the banks of the Damariscotta river during the annual Damariscotta pumpkin festival and regatta to watch the racers compete on Sunday, October 12, 2025 in Damariscotta, Maine. Participants spend two to three days hallowing out their pumpkins – which weigh upwards of 600 pounds – before they are delivered to the water by forklift.

Tom Lishness has become synonymous with the event over the years wearing his trademark red gnome hat. Lishness has been painting pumpkin boats since 2005 and his costume was inspired by the garden gnomes he would use as a scale-reference in photos during the growing process.
